Fakeaway: ‘Taco Bell’ Crunchwrap Supreme

Taco Bell is an all-time fave but even up until now, it’s something that isn’t as freely available as some people think, in the UK at least. Back in the university days in Sheffield, I lived 30 seconds away and that was one of only a handful of restaurants in the whole country! A few years later and it’s slowly starting to spread to other cities, but in a weird way it will always give me a bit of a nostalgic feel.

Back in the kitchen with another fakeaway dish, we recreated their Crunchwrap Supreme which combines quesadilla with taco, stuffed with mince, cheese and so much more. It was another phenomenal work from home lunch and we’ll definitely want to have it alongside their great mildly spiced chips next time.

TacoBell Crunchwrap Supreme

Ingredients

  • 450 g minced beef
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • 4 small flour tortillas
  • 4 sliced cheese
  • 4 taco shells
  • 250 g sour cream
  • 150 g shredded lettuce
  • 200 g chopped tomatoes
  • 200 g grated cheddar
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  • In a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, combine minced beef and spices and season with salt and pepper. Cook, breaking up meat with a wooden spoon, until no longer pink, about 6 minutes. Drain fat and wipe skillet clean.
  • To build the wraps: Add beef to the centre of 4 large flour tortillas, leaving a generous border for folding. Drizzle cheese sauce over each, then place a taco shell on top. Spread sour cream over each shell, then top with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Place smaller flour tortilla cutouts on top and tightly fold edges of large tortilla toward the centre, creating pleats. Quickly invert Crunchwraps so pleats are on the bottom and they stay together.
  • In the same skillet over medium heat, heat oil. Add Crunchwrap seam-side down and cook until tortilla is golden, 3 minutes per side. Repeat with remaining Crunchwraps.
  • Cut down the middle to show the beautiful layers and enjoy!

    That looks amazing 😍 now I’m all jealous because I’m sitting on a train eating a sandwich that feels like the bread has been left out of the bag for three days. It’s a weird mix of dry and rubbery

    You guys are so good at this fakeaway stuff! We’ve only just had the first Taco Bell open up in my city and although I’ve only visited once, I’m obsessed! Can’t wait for it to reopen so I can try some more. This fakeaway recipe sounds absolutely delicious too.

    You guys make it look so easy! Personally, I don’t like Taco Bell. Now that I’m older, the food makes me nauseous, it could be the oil they use but I’m not quite sure why it upsets my tummy. However, I will make this recipe because I can control the ingredients! It looks so good, so fresh and ABSOLUTELY tasty!!
