Review: The Mac Factory – Putney, London

If you’re in London and wondering where you can find the best Mac n Cheese you’ve ever had, stop right there and look no further than this. The Mac Factory have just expanded on their long running hub at Camden Market, south of the river to Putney. Ever inspired by the classic NYC dishes combined with the love for great mac and copious amounts of cheese, we couldn’t let this opportunity pass up.

Not only that, with USA diner mainstays like hotdogs and smoked pull pork brioche buns on the menu, it’s the perfect place to fulfil every stateside craving you’ll ever have, and in incredible fashion too.

Despite the menu being fairly short (to be fair how many different types of Mac n Cheese could you hope for!?), it took us a while to decide as each sounded as mouthwatering as the last. We finally whittled it down to Posh Spice, Mambo Italiano and Super Mario… with no regrets. Intrigued by the Sloppy Joe hotdog and Pulled Pork burger, we couldn’t resist and took these away for the next day but in hope that they thought we were buying for friends too!

Stand out performer for me was Posh Spice, which pairs my ever favourite spicy chorizo with caramelised onion. As with all the macs, the cheese pull was unworldly and made for the ultimate comfort food dinner on what was a very wet and cold Tuesday night.

The Mac Factory are the only London Street food brand to use bechemel sauce instead of a cheaper and simpler method of using milk. Combining this with both cheddar and mozzarella results in the stringy and soft cheese sauce which really was the stuff of dreams. They have the toppings down to a T and we really can’t fault what they have going on here.

With plans to further expand out of London into other cities and airport terminals (we’ll be flying exclusively out of Luton from now on), keep an eye out for the unmissable red and yellow decor. If you are in London, make sure to check the hype out in either Camden or Putney – it’s absolute perfection for a quick lunch or dinner on the go.

What we had:
1. Mambo Italiano: smoked pancetta, mushroom & garlic
2. Posh Spice: spicy chorizo, caramelised onions & harissa
3. Super Mario: sautéed mushrooms, truffle oil & garlic
4. Sloppy joe: pork frankfurter, beef chilli, sour cream & jalapeño
5. Swagger bun: 12 hour smoked pulled pork, factory hot sauce & slaw

This was kind of funny to me as an American, since no Sloppy Joe would EVER have a hot dog on it. But I’m surprised that Mac and Cheese has taken root across the pond, I grew up eating my grandma’s home-made mac and that boxed Kraft nonsense absolutely pales in comparison to something made with real cheese!

The photos really did this post justice, I would totally check this place out if I were in the area!

Oh my gosh, that mac and cheese looks insane! Just the string pull on the cheese is making me salivate, I will definitely be popping to Camden or Putney next time I’m in London… The Super Mario is the topping I think would be the game changer for me, though posh spice does look insanely good! Gorgeous photos and great review, you’ve definitely got me wanting to go to the Mac factory now!!

Oh wow, this looks delciious! I remember seeing them in Camden Market a few years ago but, being dairy free, I had to pass. I’ll have to pop into their new place next time I’m in London, even if I just watch my boyfriend eat. 😅

Okay this is probably stupid but I’ve never even considered Mac and cheese having different flavours before so even this many options took me by surprise. It all looks so good! x

Mmmmm, your photos are making me so hungry. I adore Mac and Cheese so I’m very sad I won’t be experiencing this menu down in the sticks where I live. It looks absolutely delicious!
