Review: Cheeky Chico’s – Clapham Junction, London

Love weekend brunching but fed up of every menu looking the same no matter where you go? Look no further. Cheeky Chico’s have opened up their second venue after the hugely successful Blackfriars restaurant in Clapham Junction. Keeping with the Mexican theme they’re serving up tacos, tostadas and more every Saturday and Sunday. We had the pleasure of going down a couple of weeks ago to check it all out – and yes, it was incredibly cheeky in all departments (in a spectacular way).

Cheeky Baked Eggs   - spicy chorizo and smoky BBQ black bean, lime & coriander – £9

The restaurant itself is completely unique. The interior is full of massively impressive artwork and with an open kitchen allowing you to see the fabulous dishes being put together, we honestly believe there’s not many better places in London to be at 11am on a Sunday morning (AKA mimosa o clock!)

That’s right – without hesitation from the branch manager who had a massive hand in making Cheeky Chico’s happen, mimosas were being sipped within a matter of moments. Deciding on what to choose from the awesomely enticing yet dilemma inducing menu took a little bit longer however.

With eventual acceptance that we’ll just have to come back again and again to work our way through the options, we opted for the Cheeky Baked Eggs and Mexican Benedict – with a side of fried chicken and black truffle mac n cheese tacos (as you do).

Mexican Benedict  - sweet potato, spicy nduja & chipotle lime hollandaise – £11

Not only were the portions more than large enough, but the prices were of amazing value and every bite had masses of flavour. The Cheeky Baked Eggs had no shortage of chorizo and BBQ beans, but it was when it all got mixed with the fried eggs which made it as the latest addition to our #yolkporn Instagram feature, were our taste buds literally pounding for more. Luckily, more is what we had.

Jessica’s Mexican Benedict is a prime example of how Cheeky Chico’s do things differently. Yes it had eggs cooked to perfection on soft muffins, but have you ever had it topped with sweet potato, spicy nduja and chipotle lime hollandaise? I think not. The spiciness, the sauciness, the texture and taste was all delightful.

We won’t lie – at this point we were full and had absolutely no right to order anything else. There was no way we could beat what had just gone down and we could’ve just got on with our walk in the nearby Battersea Park and made our way home. But.. we ordered tacos which was the best decision we made all week and we implore you to do the same if you ever make it down to this wonderful place.

Fried chicken  tacos – black truffle mac & cheese, chili garlic crumb, jalapeno nahm jim – £11

To be fair, anything with black truffle on it is usually decent (if you’ve never had black truffle and parmesan fries then you need to start living life to its full potential), but this took our day by storm.

These tacos were bursting to the brim with fried chicken and the black truffle mac n cheese infused with chilli garlic crumb and jalapeños.

Let’s all take a moment to let that sink in. Now close your eyes and imagine what that could taste like and multiply it by a thousand. You’ll be getting close to what we experienced.

Right, we’re ready to go. Ready to see if my jacket still fits and be onwards with the day… then we heard the glowing words of “can I get you guys any cocktails and desserts?”

Is this a joke? You’re kidding right… yeah go on then!

Before we knew it we had our hands on the best chocolate filled churros we’ve ever had washed down with Espresso martinis.

Gym, forgive me, I have well and truly sinned. In that moment, on that day, I couldn’t have cared less though.

I’m finding it difficult to articulately sum up how magnificent Cheeky Chico’s is. Just please do us a favour and experience it for yourself ASAP. No matter what corner of London you have to come from, take our word that it will be worth it.

Thank you to everyone who looked after us on this blessed day. See ya soon!

All of that food loves yummy, I want to say especially the turros but everything looks just as good! I’m always looking to try new places while I’m in London so I’ll have to put Cheeky Chico’s down for when I’m next in Clapham 🙂

Oh wow, your food (and drinks) look absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious. I adore egg dishes and these sound amazing. I also tried churros for the first time last year and am now a definite convert, much nicer than doughnuts. And those are the espresso martinis of dreams, haha! Lisa x

The food all looks incredible. I am a HUGE fan of restaurants, bars and other such locations that take the time to create their own unique aesthetic. I feel like I search them out anywhere I go. We’ll definitely have to check it out if we’re ever in the area!

This looks incredible! Love that you made the most of mimosa o’clock. I’ve never had Mexican breakfast foods before so I’m definitely intrigued by this! X

Ok I need to add London to my dream destination list real quick! I had no idea they served these type of dishes, really reminds me of Texan cuisine, which is where I live! The fried chicken tacos with the mac and cheese is legit! What a genius idea to combine southern cuisine with a Mexican twist, this dish is a perfect example of Texan food!
