After a very long 12 hour night train from Ljubljana to Zurich, it was safe to say that we were ready for some comfort. Once we arrived, our first mission was to find the Tourist Information Centre as we had to collect our 72 hr Zurich Cards* these were quickly put to use as you get free public transport within the card, which we use to travel to our hotel for the night.
25 Hours Hotel*. It didn’t look like much for the outside, but stepping foot in front and as the automatic doors open, you are welcomed into a completely different world. The hotel regards itself as a small, independent universe where the worlds and cultures of art and finance converge.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovelylady who checked us in and luckily our room was available to go to straight away, which we were so grateful for as a shower was definitely needed.
The room was so big, immaculate and so quirky! We were over the moon, with our views looking over the train tracks and into the city, we thought we’d hear so many trains but we didn’t. We had an open shower/bath tub, also looking over the view and a clear open space. Everything down to the comfy beds to the desk lights, even the speakers and toys around to play with.
We were also welcomed with a little goodie bag on our bed, along with a welcome note.
The hotel had 170 guest rooms, a meeting space for up to 80 people, Neni restaurant, Cinchona bar, living room and business lounge, parking spaces,trainspotting-sauna including fitness (which we adored and will talk more about that later in the post), the fastest free of charge wifi (even for on the go, which we didn’t have to use as we have our own data but very handy), iMac workstation (which I am currently using to write this post), James’ new best friend UE boom bluetooth speakersand freitag bags. All of these were in all rooms for yourdaily use and able to purchase, free of charge mini cars upon availability and bikes for rent.
So back to the free of charge Mini cars upon availability, yeah, you read that right! Free of charge! A Mini! Crazy I know and we were lucky enough to have the availability to use it. We had no plans to go anywhere with it, but why not right? James signed his life away and off we went.
With no idea where to go, we just went for an hour and a half ride around to nowhere basically. This was James’ first time driving out of the UK, let alone an automatic, hybrid, sitting on the left side and driving on the right. It was fun and a nice little touch to our trip here (she says but fell asleep on the way back)
After some meals and a wander around the hotel, we come back to the intriguing name, trainspotting-sauna and fitness section of this post.
Perched at the top of the hotel, on the 7th floor, is the inviting spa area with a sauna and fitness machines. The sauna offers a spectacular view of the arriving and departing trains on the tracks of Zurich’s main station, hence the name and the panorama extends all the way to Zürichberg and Käferberg. There is also a relaxing quiet zone and outdoor area with sun loungers, if it wasn’t for the drizzles, this would have been the perfect setting but the views were still worth looking out at.
As well as the facilities, there is also a complimentary selection of teas and chilled water along the side of the fresh towels for your use.
This was the perfect end to our day and very well deserved after a rocky night on the train! Thank you so much to 25Hours Hotel for having us!
