Elderflower Breeze – Gin, Elderflower Cordial, Lemon, Cucumber & Basil
After another fabulous Bank Holiday weekend, you would think that going back to work on a Tuesday would be a drag.. but not for us! We were invited to taste the new spring cocktail range at TwoRuba. This is a fantastic bar located at the Hilton Hotel in Tower Bridge, which is just a short walk away from Tower Bridge itself, and the great views around that it brings!
Upon arrival, we were greeted by Rebecca and Sophia from Lioneye Media, the two lovely ladies who invited us along to the event. Bar manager and sales manager from the hotel also joined in the evening of fun, as did our fellow bloggers, @DeterminedDiner, @kariss_leigh, and good friend @JessEatingEast.
Raspberry & Thyme Smash – Dark Rum, Raspberry, Cranberry, Lime & Thyme
The first of four cocktails, the Elderflower Breeze, it was so light and fresh, the perfect start to the tasting. Elderflower has become a real favourite for this time of year, and it’s easy to see why. Next up was the raspberry and thyme smash – this ended up being our favourite out of them all, purely based on the fact that we seem to enjoy any cocktail with strawberry or raspberry in it. The spring spritz was the runner up, again purely for personal taste as tequila is such a good cocktail base. Last but definitely not least was the TwoRuba cooler, which was also very refreshing but don’t be fooled, you can definitely taste the gin in there.
Spring Spritz – Blanco Tequila, St. Germain, Lemon, Vanilla & Mint
But the cocktail tasting wasn’t all, to end the evening we attempted to make our own! We’ve always wanted to do a cocktail masterclass, and tonight would be the night we got to try our hand at it! Split into two different teams, I, James had the task of making a cosmopolitan with only the ingredients and measures list. The rest of it – glass choice, garnish, shaken, stirred, ice, no ice – was down to my team!
Of course there was confusion and lots of guessing going into it, but it turned out pretty well and didn’t look too dissimilar to the pro bartenders who were there watching.
But unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as Jessica’s team absolutely stole the show with their Mai Thai cocktail, and to be honest, I couldn’t really complain!
TwoRuba Cooler – Gin, Cointreau, Apple, Lemon, Rose Syrup & Rosemary
We ended the night enjoying some cocktails made by the excellent mixologists in the pop up spring garden. They will be changing the decor of the bar for every season, so will soon be introducing a beach theme for summer. We’ll definitely have to pop down again when that happens, armed with our free cocktails voucher we won for making the cocktails!
A massive thank you to Rebecca and Sophia at Lioneye Media, and all at the Hilton Hotel for a fantastic event!
Disclaimer: we were invited to this event and sampled the cocktails in exchange for a review. But as always, all our opinions and photos are our own.
