Hole In The Wall Cafés & Jacketz | Amsterdam Day 2

Caught up with Day 1 and Day 3?

Kicking of the day with such a lovely breakfast at our AirBnb, our host Dann & Ine offered us breakfast for €5 each and we simply couldn't pass that up. Although we had no idea what was on offer, this morning we were surprised with so much more than we'd expected - a range of different warm breads, butter, jam and even chocolate sprinkles, along side apples, kiwis and yogurt granola. As well as all of that, we also made ourselves a sandwich which we took away with us for lunch with the left over bread with the provided cheese and ham, and to top is all off, orange juice and a classic coffee. We were literately set out for the day!

All of this for €10!? We'll be back again! In all seriousness, the breakfast was so lovely, they could get away with charging a bit more if we're honest. Thank you Dann & Ine for your hospitality, we would highly recommend them if you're ever in Amsterdam and need somewhere to stay.

A grilled burger of Dutch beef with crispy iceberg lettuce, bacon, pickles and homemade remoulade sauce on a fresh sesame seed bun - €2.90

FEBO - various locations

With a very exciting start to the morning with a 3 hour bike tour with WeBike Amsterdam, which you can read all about on our travel post, you'd imagine we'd be peckish by this time, luckily we had our sandwiches with us and with that we were satisfied for the time being. The sandwich was so good to be fair, can't beat some cheese and real ham.

With a bit of time between running a few blogger errands and having to get back on time for the Anne Frank museum, we decided to get a quick snack from FEBO, we've seen them all around the city over the past day and have been fascinated by the concept of this shop.

Works like a vending machine, pop in the money, push a button and out comes your food. Cool right? So we obviously had to try. James went for a burger and I went for something that I had and still have no exact clue what it was, I personally liked it but James wasn't a fan, he did enjoy his burger though. It's a really different concept as we have nothing like this in the UK, is like to go back and try more of what they have to offer.

A crunchy pastry of spicy satay ragout, eastern spices, fresh bouillon and Dutch beef - €1.80

Jacketz Chilli Con Carne with Black Angus Beef + Cheese - €10.90

Address - Kinkerstraat 56

After a long search for something to eat, we opted for some jacket potato! Boring you may say? But the fillings we've got would convince you otherwise! Have you ever had green curry as a filling before? I didn't think so. Jacket potatoes are so simple but simply amazing. What can potatoes not do?

There were some quotes written on the wall, of course potato related, the first saying "What I say is that, if a man really likes potatoes, he must be a pretty decent sort of fellow." by A.A. Milne and another saying "It is easy to halve the potato where there is love" - Irish Proverb and this made us laugh as I read it out, James asks me "would you halve your potato with me?" I said no.. Food before Baker people, Food before Baker! (luv u rlly)

Jacketz Spicy Green Curry - €8.95

The size of the potato itself was so big, it so filling that we ended sharing a dessert rather than having one each ;) which was a shame since that cheesecake was too good to share but it had to be done. It was the cherry on top and exactly what we needed to give this meal the finishing touch.

The texture of a baked cheesecake never really fits me but this one was really creamy, went very well with the berries and the presentation was just beautiful.

Cheesecake with Berries - €3.95

Come back tomorrow to read all about the food tour we'll be doing here in Amsterdam!

  3. Oooh, those vending machines look so interesting, I've never come across anything like them before! I'm not surprised that you were so tempted to try them out! Your Air B&B hosts sound fantastic, what a lovely way to start the day with all of that brekkie! My favourite jacket potato filling has to be creamy brocolli (just brocolli mashed up with Philadelphia), it's lush!
