Date Night: Plan Our Date

This week's date night was another first as it was actually planned for us, with everything we needed delivered straight to our doorstep. It's not that weird - it's a monthly subscription box which contains all you need for some fun activities and some food was thrown in too! It's called Plan Our Date.

This week there five steps to the date, the first of which was to play the specially designed playlist for the night, on Spotify. There were some cheesy love tunes mixed in with some old classics - it went down quite well! You can't beat a bit of Frank Sinatra and some of The Beatles.

Step two was a game called 'Who Know's Who?', a game supposed to make you appreciate what you do for each other. Something you might expect to appear on Mr & Mrs, it was a quiz like game, in the aim of matching answers. Questions included 'what is your favourite memory together' and 'what do you enjoy doing most together.'

The prize for the winner was some tokens that were also included in the box. We both got more than six answers correct so that meant one token each, but Jessica won 8 points to 7, so collected the remaining token. I am still yet to have my free massage, Jessica has now redeemed her cup of tea, but I still owe her breakfast in bed (apparently!)

Step three got us downstairs to the kitchen, where we made pancakes! Whilst we were doing this, we paused the playlist and caught up on GBBO, we thought there would be no better time to do this! There were packets of already measured out ingredients so it was super easy and didn't take long at all. We were given golden syrup but we wished we had some extra toppings in the fridge - we'll have to plan in advance next time! Still super yummy though!

Here is the recipe and method:

Ingredients:
135g plain flour, 1 tbsp baking powder, 2 tbsp caster sugar, golden syrup (all included in box)
130ml milk, 1 egg, 2 tbsp melted butter (not included, obviously)

Method:
1. Sift the flour, baking powder and caster sugar into a large bowl. In a separate bowl, lightly whisk the milk, egg and melted butter.
2. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture, beating until you have a smooth batter. Any lumps will disappear with a little mixing. Let the batter stand for a few minutes.
3. Heat a non-stick trying pan over a medium heat and add a knob of butter. When melted, add a ladle of batter. Wait until the top of the pancake begins to bubble before turning and cooking until both sides are golden brown and the pancake has risen to 1cm thick.
4. Repeat until all the batter is used up. You can keep the pancakes in a low oven, but they taste fresh out of the pan. When ready, pour over your golden syrup and add any additional ingredients you might fancy.

Step four of this date night got our creative sides out. Well for Jessica it did, I don't have a creative bone in my body. We were provided with two A5 canvases, some paints, and pencils. Our job was to illustrate what we love to do most together. Of course it was eating!

So Jessica re-created a picture of us at Duck & Waffle, and I tried at our Caffe Concerto cakes. When I say I'm quite proud of my effort, I'm sure you can appreciate how appalling I am at any kind of art! Jessicas' on the other hand was a canny representation!

Step five was to end things in a traditional British style, with a cup of tea! We were provided with Yorkshire tea bags - lovely! We had a lovely night and we both found it very relaxing and nice to escape the busy lifestyle we both usually lead. We already have next month's box on order.
