Brunch @ The Attendant, Fitzrovia - London

Another independent coffee shop you say? Indeed, next to the one we visit yesterday actually but this time one with a twist! This little gem is located in an old underground public toilet. Gross, I know, I thought that too but they swore it was cleaned thouroughly. I guess we have to believe it.

James - Flat White - £2.80 and Jessica Ice mocha - £3.20

So here's the thing, as much as I love coffee and it being almost hot today, I opted for an iced mocha but I forget that I don't like the strong bitter taste of how anywhere that's not Starbucks makes iced coffees, so I ended up exchanging with James, not to say it wasn't nice but just not something up my street.

Jessica - Breakfast crossaint - Egg, Swiss cheese, maple cured bacon, spinach and spicy tomato Chutney - £4.50

The food was just right, as you know how much love I have for avocados, but this morning I was just looking for something light and went for the breakfast crossaint while James went for the typical Jessica brunch meal. It was delightful, I think James was a tad peckish this morning as he also had a chocolate crossaint with his coffee too.

James - Smashed Avocado on Toast with two Poched Eggs - £8

The place itself was small as one would imagine how public toilets are, although we felt some sort of contradiction - we get that it's an old toilet, knowing that was enough but to see the old cracks and you know, it did feel gross to be in - James said it could have been fixed up more but then understands it may defeat the purpose of  it being this way.

On the way in we noticed the vandalised wall on which we questioned whether it had been there from when this opened or was it the original graffiti from the public toilets it used to be. On the way out, we found some sharpies which lead us to believe it was for anyone to do so, to find out the pens were blunt. So we had to give that a miss.

It was certainly a different environment to eat and drink in.

  5. I totally get what you mean with this conversion, there's a bar in Manchester called Temple which is also in an old toilets and it can be hard to shake the thought, I'm also not great in small places! But oh my gosh that food looks incredibly scrummy! I'm also exactly the same with iced coffee from anywhere other than Starbucks, whoops! :)
