Date Night: Dinner @ Inn The Park - St James' Park, London

Inn The Park fish and chips, mushy peas and rapeseed tartare sauce - £14.00

Yet again, Friday night is date night! A bit more of a conventional date night this week as we just met each other after work for dinner. We keep forgetting that for my birthday Jessica's Mum and sister bought me some meal vouchers for a restaurants under the 'Peyton & Byrne' name. So thank you very much! The previous night we chose this one from their website and booked a table for the latest time possible, 8.30.

On the day itself, I had 8 missed calls from a mysterious number which turned out to be the restaurant. They wanted to change our booking for 7.45 as they had only a few bookings and wanted to close earlier. When I rang to say we would be slightly late and would be arriving at 8, they came across slightly rude about it - so this wasn't the best start. But to be fair, once in the restaurant, the service was spot on.

After seeing the menu online, I was already fancying their fish and chips by the time I found out it was National Fish and Chips Day! So that confirmed it! The fish and chips were good, but the mushy peas were just not mushy enough, and a bit off coloured.

Homemade sourdough loaf, Longman's butter - £3.50
Flamed newlyn squid & wild garlic emulsion - £6.50

It is located in the middle of St James' Park near Trafalgar Square and the opposite end of The Mall to Buckingham Palace. Although it was slightly pricier than usual restaurants we eat at, it was surprisingly cheaper than I would have expected for a restaurant in this area. And we did have £50 worth of vouchers, so you can't complain at a bill totalling £11.

Afterwards we took the walk into Central London to get some dessert. I was devastated to find that Haagen Daz has closed on Piccadilly - so that threw me just a bit! We ended up going into Pizza Hut for some cookie dough, to find that they didn't have any ice cream. By this point we were so tired so decided to have our backup plan of Cafe Concerto another time.
