Half Time Refreshments @ The Common Room - Devonshire Street, Sheffield

Mates plate and palsplatter - burnt ends, chicken wings, cue balls, hog scratchings, onion rings, cornbread, rib tips, hot links, boneless wings, deep fried mac and cheese - £22.00

As soon as we had lunch, it was time to leave for the football. We picked Nelson up along the way first though!

Of course Jessica wouldn't have agreed to this outing if it wasn't for the food, so these starter platters were ordered for half time which we all shared.

Nelson and I were engrossed in the football whilst Jessica watched 'How to Get Away with Murder' on Netflix (yes I am worried too!) But she did chip in with some sarcastic commentary when someone fell over haha!

The second half has just started at time of writing this post...

Lunch @ Sheffield

Balti lamb and rice meatballs with aubergines and a tomato sauce - cooked by James

So far, today has been the laziest of lazy days! But we have been awake since early, as we had to prep this meal and have it in the slow cooker 4 and a half hours earlier as to when we planned to eat.

We used my new Slow Cooker book bought by Grandma, and my slow cooker also bought by Grandma - so thank you Grandma!

As we are going out to The Common Room at 4 to watch Liverpool win the League Cup later (hopefully!), we wanted to eat around 3.

Whilst I did the cooking, Jessica edited and fine tuned this weeks video which is now up on YouTube so go check it out!

Lunch @ Forge Bakehouse - Abbeydale Road, Sheffield

Baked eggs with a stack of sourdough toast, thyme and garlic roasted mushrooms and pancetta - £6.50 - Jessica

On Jessica's arrival last night, we ordered Dominos pizza to eat whilst watching the Brit Awards which I missed on Wednesday because of work. Although the pizza was great, the driver was quite a let down as we particularly instructed him on the order to sing a song when I answer the door. Not only did he not sing, he made us come outside to him! Party pooper!!

White peak sourdough filled with the ultimate grilled cheese combination of Montgomery's Cheddar, Comte and Ogleshield (with hendersons mushrooms) - £5 - James

Today we woke up really early for some reason and told ourselves we would get up and out early for breakfast. Well we fell back to sleep didn't we, missed breakfast, and here we are at lunch!

This week we ordered our Independent Sheffield card which gives you a small percentage off certain independent cafes and restaurants across the city. So now seemed like the perfect time to continue on our tour of the 21 best cups of coffee in Sheffield. But we were told we can only use it on pizza nights here - which was disappointing for us but not necessarily their fault.

This place has a really strange system! There are two different entrances, one to order your food where you have to queue yourself, and then you have to go out and in again, and wait to be seated (there's only 4 tables inside).

Flat white - £2.50 - James
Hot chocolate - £2.80 - Jessica
Chocolate salted doughnut - Jessica
Ring doughnut - James

The food was excellent, however both of our drinks had a strange taste to them. I don't know what it was, it was just... weird. I'm afraid it doesn't match up to the likes of Steam Yard and Amici & Bici.

We've decided to add a coffee rating for each of the independent places we'll be going to, and here they are in order so far...

Steam Yard and Amici & Bici ★★★★★
Tamper Coffee ★★★
Bragazzi's and Somewhere Else ★★★
Forge Bakehouse ★ (sorry!)

And now for the other ratings for Forge Bakehouse...

Lunch @ Sheffield

Prawn and mushroom Alfredo

We had a very late start to the day,
Although the we was up at 9:30, we just wanted to lay there and recover from the night we had.

So let's start from the beginning, I got into Sheffield at 11pm last night and once we got to the house, everyone that was going out were already pre-drinking (yes, I was aware of this outing beforehand) so I was willing and prepared to have my first drink and catch up. Night was going well until the cabs arrived and I realised I didn't have my I.D but I took a risk with using the most ridiculous Photobooth membership card to get in and it worked!

Long story short, although I'm not that much older, but clubbing is also not my thing, I do feel like I'm too old for these super late nights after, especially after a long day at work and a two hour train journey but it was good to have gone out with the guys from the house!

Here's the only picture I took last night

And here we are the next day, once again we had a printest inspired meal, expect we just added mushrooms. You can find the link below:

Recently, James and I have been pre-planning all meals, so we're not stuck with time to figure out what to eat.

It's so nice to cook with James again, it's nice to have that balance between going out to eat and having that bonding time and cook together.

We've got an hour or so before James has to head off to work. Most likely going to film our next video for you guys!

Lunch @ Graze Inn - Ecclesall Road, Sheffield

Crispy aromatic duck leg with pancake, cucumber, spring onions and hoisin sauce - £8

From our quick trip we went straight for lunch as all that walking built up a great appetite!

This place has always caught my eye walking up and down this road on the way to uni - and today was finally the day I actually came in!

Chicken fillet & chorizo kebab, flatbread, house salad, sweet potato fries, peri peri spices and Graze Inn dip - £16 - Jessica

When we arrived it was unexpectedly quiet although it is Monday afternoon, but it immediately has plenty of character and each room is a little bit different from the next.

Taylor's award winning sausages, black pudding, crispy bacon, creamy mash, brown sauce, onions and gravy - £10 - James

The food was really well presented, delicious and great value for money! The waiting staff are also very attentive and friendly.

We plan to come back here at a busier time in order to get a better atmosphere - maybe to sit in the bar area which looks very quirky and different!

We were supposed to have dinner in two hours but we're not sure how we feel about that now... we'll see...

Afternoon Out to Chatsworth House

After brunch, we headed straight for Chatsworth House... although we didn't! I couldn't find the address on the SatNav, but I could find Chatsworth Fish Bar - nearby right? Nope, that's in the middle of Chesterfield, and we realised we were not in the middle of nowhere like we should've been by the time we were further away from our destination than when we started!

But clearly we did make it there eventually! Jessica was fascinated more by the sheep than the house, but we both really enjoyed the outing nevertheless!

The house and the main gardens are closed at this time of year so we will have to come back in the Spring, but the grounds are still beautiful, and we also went in the art exhibition and gift shops.

Cappuccino and Scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream

I fancied a quick bite before we left so had this scone from the restaurant there. From here we drove back to Sheffield and then straight on to our late lunch...

Valentine's Presents

Hello my lovelies, I know this isn't my weekend to blog, but I wanted to squeeze in a cheeky appreciation post to my darling boyfriend.

This is our second Valentine's Day together and to be honest, the first one I made more of an effort than this one. I'm not a very romantic person and I don't like being told what to do, and Valentine's Day is telling me to love my boyfriend more in this day. NO! I love him everyday thanks.

Anyway, let's be real, James and I don't see each other as often as a regular couple do (well actually we've been seeing each other more often now) so really, is going out and seeing a movie, is typically something we do on a normal weekend. We do it all, so what more is there to do but give each other a card and a gift.

Side note: shout out to grandma Baker for my cute pink tea pot!

This year, I regretfully didn't get him a present, but I did give in to giving him a card but nothing compares to the very thoughtful gift he gave to me.

As you can see above in all the pictures, James got me flowers, a present and a card.

The card was related to the present which just the cherry on top. I had to put the flowers in one of James' tall mug because why would he have a vase haha works either way, so...

JAMES GOT A STAR NAMED AFTER US "JB SQUARED"

This is the cutest gift ever because it was a reference to my favourite film 'a walk to remember' and I have always said, he was my shooting star wish come true.

Let me end the cheesy-ness here, hope you've all have an amazing day whatever you did!

Dinner @ Sheffield

Lemon, herb and Parmesan crusted fish with a tomato risotto

Once I was home from work by about 5.30, there was no time for rest as we were both super hungry - I didn't even get my pizza today!

I saw this on BBC Good Food ages ago and bookmarked it in my favourites (sophisticated I know), but for some reason we've never done it. So when it came about thinking what to cook, I went to my favourites and ta-daa!

Haagen Daz Strawberry Cheesecake icecream, shortbread bites and blueberries

Originally the risotto wasn't served with risotto on the website, but it was the first thing I thought of when needing to put something with the fish - and I thought they went together very well!

The risotto recipe was also found on BBC Good Food, and here are the two links:

After dinner we watched Take Me Out and then headed out to the cinema to watch Deadpool. The first cinema we went to had no seats left for the only remaining screening of it, so we ended up back at Meadowhall at the Vue there.

Nachos with cheese, salsa and jalapeƱos

We were there late, and came from a different direction to normal which baffled me haha with the million different car parks there! We eventually parked near an entrance we knew however getting back to it turned out to be a bit of a problem!

They were doing overnight work in the centre so were directed another way by one of the workers, and we thought we would be walking for ages! But we did find a dodgy looking fire exit which brought us quite near to the car. The car park was massive and my car was the only one in there. It looked like a scene of  a zombie apacolypyse!

Anyway... the movie was great and I would definitely recommend it! Although it does appeal to a certain type of humour.

We hope you all had a great Valentine's Day! Look out for more posts tomorrow as Jessica is here for an extra day!!

Valentine's Breakfast @ Sheffield

Pancakes with whipped cream, strawberries and blueberries

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYONE!

As I have work again today, we woke up early to make ourselves breakfast! We wanted to keep up the tradition from last year of making pancakes on Valentine's Day - but this year instead of Nutella, we did it with fruit and whipped cream.

We did not want to cheat so made everything from scratch. After me doing pancakes on Tuesday with my housemates using batter mix, although still nice, I realised it really wasn't the same! (No offense guys!)

It was quite a team effort - Jessica prepared and mixed everything, and I cooked them and got to do the best bit - the flipping!

So off I go to work now. Jessica is refusing to eat in Pizza Express alone on Valentine's Day haha, so I'll see her back here later when Chef Baker will be taking to the kitchen to see how romantic his Valentine's dinner can be this year!

Coffee @ The Steam Yard, Devonshire Street

Mocha - £2.70 - Jessica
Latte - £2.40 - James
Two S'more Doughnuts (peanut butter, Nutella and marshmallows) - £3 each

After making our first ever online food shopping order to be delivered last night, we have completely planned what we will be eating over the next three days (yes, Jessica is here until Monday!)

So it was always in our plan to come back here, for one particular reason - the hot s'more doughnut!! After our first visit a few weeks ago we made it a plan. We came back for them once before but they were sold out *inconsolable crying* so we had our fingers crossed today!

Pastrami roll with American mustard, cheese and rocket salad - £4.20 - James

We were not let down! Absolutely delicious and perfect with their beautiful coffee!

Eating that only made me more hungry! So I had the pastrami roll which was also seriously yummy!

This is just the perfect place for coffee and a quick bite - it has a great atmosphere, its full of quirky features and the staff are very friendly! We will be back, back and back again!

Dinner @ Convention Cafe, Paris

Starter - Escargots (French snails) - €10.50

WE HAD SNAILS! WOO! To be honest, they weren't as bad as people think they would be - they weren't slimey, ours just tasted garlic-y and it was good. I wouldn't choose to eat them again, but I'm glad we did it. Checked off our food bucket list ✔️

Jessica - Moules frites marieres (mussels with white wine) - €16
James - Moules frites a la creme (mussels with cream) - €16

We ended up going to a restaurant right across the road from the hotel, saw the menu before hand, so we already knew what we were having, but the snails was the lucky surprise.

It wasn't busy at all for a Saturday night, the lady couldn't speak any English, which didn't help either of us, although James brought out a little of his French. Ooh lala.

Jessica - Margarita - tequila, Cointreau, citron presse - €9
James - Vodka on Malibu Orange - vodka, Malibu, orange juice - €9

I actually think today was Opposite Day, usually when James and I decide on food and drink, we alway aim to get something different so both of us can try something new and most, if not all the time, I always pick the best one, but TODAY everything we've had, I've liked his better than mine and tonight during dinner, I finished eating first! Mental madness.

It was a great ending to the night and I got drunk woo haha
