Dinner @ The Kash Bar, Brook Street

Smoke stack - slow cooked pulled pork, BBQ sauce, onion rings and coleslaw - £12 - James, Josh and Jack

In the week Jessica suggested that we catch up with Josh and Jack, my two mates from sixth form. Considering we were out with the family yesterday, and with my Sheffield friends tomorrow, we thought it would be complete by being out with these guys tonight! Their girlfriends weren't available so Jessica was the only female contingent there - but this wasn't a problem!

Dirty Sanchez - cheddar cheese, guacamole, salsa and jalapeños - £11 - Jessica

Josh suggested this place which I've never heard of before - surprisingly because for what it was it was very nice!

After naturally talking about Food & Baker, Josh talked about his up and coming film making group 'VLR Productions' - so check it out on Facebook and YouTube! You never know, we might join up and do something together in the future!

Now we're going out to bowling after Jack bigged up his recently gained skills! So the challenge is on! We'll let you know how we did...

Breakfast @ Mad Hatters Tearoom and Bakery, Bridge Street Row

The Mad Hatters' Full Breakfast - a slice of toast, 2 rashers of bacon, a locally sourced sausage, a free ranged egg, fried mushrooms, homemade baked beans, half a herb and garlic tomato, and a black pudding hash brown (Included with a cup of coffee) - £8.50 - Jessica and James

This morning we were up and out fairly early as we were meeting Grandma for breakfast. We wanted to go somewhere new and independent, and it was very fortunate that we were going out with the Queen of Afternoon Tea (Grandma), so she was able to recommend this place!

Porridge - made fresh served with a honey drizzle and toasted hazelnuts, finished with our homemade fruit compote - £4 - Grandma

Grandma and Jessica haven't seen each other for a long while, so it was good for them to catch up! They are becoming rather good pals haha! In fact their conversation was so good that we forgot to take pictures, which we especially wanted as we didn't get any with her last night.

Now we can't see one Grandma without seeing the other, so afterwards we went to pick up Nanny so she can spend sometime at home with us this afternoon.

As you may guess from the name, it is inspired by Alice in Wonderland so it is really quirky inside! Teapots hanging off the ceiling, spilt ice creams on the floor, and plenty of delicious food!

Raspberry and white chocolate cupcake - Jessica
Chocolate and strawberry cupcake - Olivia
Rocky road slice - James

So many cupcakes were being brought out by the baker whilst we were sat eating, so Grandma very kindly bought Jessica, Olivia and myself one, along with a teapot for Jessica that she was admiring!

Dinner @ Et Alia at The Red House, Chester

Calamari fritti - crisp fried calamari with roast garlic and lemon salsa - £6.25 - Jessica

Tonight we were going out with the family and my Grandma and Grampy for my birthday meal, as Jessica and I will be in Sheffield on my actual birthday.

It was a surprise where we were going. Normally I can guess but I had no clue, and in the car on the way there I was just getting confused!

Funghi al Aligio - mixed sautéed mushrooms with garlic in a light cream sauce served on a toasted crouton - £5.25 - James

I haven't been here for years and couldn't remember much about it other than the view over the River Dee - but obviously it was dark outside so we couldn't appreciate that today.

Linguine Gamberoni Piccante - linguine with garlic tiger prawns, hint of Napoli saice, courgette ribbons and cherry tomatoes - £11.50 - Jessica

The food was excellent and from the look of it surprisingly very filling! By the end we were all so full! We felt the staff could've been more smiley and happy, and a couple of drink orders were forgotten about, but it didn't deter from
what was a great evening! Shout out for the toilets also, which were right up there!

After the meal I was presented with my birthday cake and then my presents from everyone - mannn I've been spoilt!

First I opened my Grandma's which was a Ted Baker gift voucher, and a Ben Sherman pocket handkerchief and t-shirt.

Then from Mum, Dad and Olivia I had hospitality tickets for me and Dad to go to Liverpool v Mamchester City on 2nd March! I haven't been to Anfield for so long so I'm really excited for this day to come along! I also had another Ted Baker voucher so I am absolutely ballin next time I'm in there haha!

Penne Piccante - penne tossed with spicy sausage, chilli, garlic, onions, cherry tomatoea and a tomato ragu - £10.50 - James

And then finally came my present from my Princess! And just when I thought I'd had a great surprise, came another one!

WE'RE GOING TO PARIS NEXT WEEKEND!!!

Jessica gave me a card with The Eiffel Tower on the front and had added her own pockets on the inside which had our Eurostar tickets in and the itinerary for the weekend - beautifully presented too!

So expect plenty of great food posts next  week haha!

Honestly I don't mean to show off haha, I'm just so appreciative to everyone for my presents and spending the time with me this weekend! It was overwhelming at the time and now I'm just so excited to go to Paris and the football!

The night didn't end there - once we were home we went out for a drive with no particular purpose. But as I started driving I knew where we could go. And to Jessica's surprise we ended up at Lion Quays Hotel - where we first met on 27th August 2014! It was the first time either of us has been back since!

We took the walk from where Micah's party was to the hotel (only this time we were both sober haha), and even got to go up to which room we properly met in! Yes I remember the room number haha!

Hopefully we can go back and actually stay there soon!

Anyway, back to the restaurant, and here's our ratings...

Lunch @ Barlounge, Watergate Street

Chicken Caesar Burger - with Parmesan and bacon served with sweet potato fries and purple coleslaw - £10 - Jessica

We originally wanted to continue our recent tradition of going to independent coffee shops this morning, but after sleeping for longer than expected and meanwhile developing a bit more of an appetite, we ended up here - at Barlounge.

This was never in the plan, but as we were walking round I thought about the miracle that was I have never been here.

Blue cheese and bacon burger served with skin on chips and purple coleslaw - £10.50 - James

As we tend to have burgers quite a lot, I thought to have something slightly different by having the one with blue cheese - a great decision that was! And of course Jessica had to have her favourite sweet potato fries with hers!

Dee breeze - absolute mango, fresh apple juice, cranberry juice, grapefruit bitters - £6.95

We were only able to sit in the bar as the restaurant was full and we were not prepared to wait! This may seem silly to say, but it had more of a pub vibe than a bar (if you know what I mean), but that's probably just a misconception of mine.

The cocktails were very nicely presented and tasted great, as was the food! Would definitely come back for a chilled out afternoon meal, and also for the nightlife aspect this place is well known for!

Dinner @ Sheffield

'Taco stuffed peppers' served with chips

Remember on our breakfast post when I said we would be going back to Tamper Coffee for the best chips in the world? Well they stopped serving at 5, sad times.

So, we stuck to our original plan of cooking at home, inspired by one of BuzzFeed Tasty's recipes, since we had left over salsa, sour cream and guacamole from the nachos we made last week.

Since we've been home, I've just been watching Scandal and editing our YouTube video, while my hard working James was resting. We had to wait a bit to build an appetite again from the doughnuts we ate earlier haha

Hot chocolate + Krispy Kreme doughnuts

While we eat, we're catching up on Take me out and Take me out: The gossip

Only half way through eating and we are stuffed!

Breakfast @ Tamper Coffee - Sellers Wheel, Sheffield

The Big Kiwi - 2 poached eggs, homemade hash brown, crispy bacon, portobello mushrooms, hand pressed pork patty - grilled Roma tomato & home baked beans on toasted ciabatta.

GOOD MORNING! We was up by 8am, as mentioned in last weeks post, we said we were planning to come here, and as James has work at 12, we had to make sure we was up and early to do our new video *COMING SOON (tomorrow)* and have time to have coffee and breakfast.

Jessica - Mocha - £2.70
James - Latte - £2.50

James had been here before and he claims that their chips are the best he's ever had, so of course I had to challenge him and find out for myself. Obviously under the circumstances of it being 10 in the morning, we were only given the breakfast menu, so we may come back after James finishes work for the chips ;)

The breakfast was beautifully presented, along with their beautifully designed coffees - and the looked matched its taste, amazing and so filling. The atmosphere was just right for breakfast time and as it should, it had that independent feel and look to it.

Lunch @ The Common Room - Division Street, Sheffield

Pizza fries - £6.50
Chicken wings with hot sauce - £8.00
Cherry soda - £1.80
Homemade Lemon Ice Tea - £2.50

We drove straight here from Somewhere Else Cafe and parked in exactly the same spot as we did for Steam Yard yesterday!
It's just down the road from it!

We arrived in plenty of time for the 2.05pm kick off of Liverpool v Man Utd, which was the main reason why we came. The other reason of course was food!

Whilst I was fully concentrating on the match, Jessica did her own running commentary on it on Twitter, which mainly focused on how hungry she was! We planned to have chicken wings and fries at half time, so ordered them 10 minutes before.

We had a bet about who would win the match, me saying Liverpool of course! We lost 1-0, so now I owe her two smore doughnuts from Steam Yard! As long as I get a bite I don't mind too much!

Breakfast @ Somewhere Else Coffee - Ecclesall Road, Sheffield

Bacon sandwich - £2.60 - Jessica
Sausage Sandwich - £2.60 - James
Mango and peach smoothie - £1.70 - Jessica
Americano - £2.20 - James

After going to Steam Yard yesterday, we we came across the Independent Sheffield Twitter page, which had a feature on the 21 best independent coffee shops in Sheffield.

Steam Yard and Tamper Coffee (where we'll be going probably next week) were on it, as was this place, which is only a 5 minute drive from home.

Bag of 3 marshmallows - 60p - Jessica
Chocolate brownie - £2.40 - James

The place itself is quirky and cute - you can tell it's independent. We felt it lacked a warm welcome, and there was minimal level of contact with the people working there. For the price, the food was good but nothing special (although those marshmallows were little bites of goodness!)

Dinner @ Taco Bell - Ecclesall Road, Sheffield

Cheesy double decker deal - cheesy double melt beef burrito, volcano double decker taco, fries and drink - £5.95

After we got home we just chilled and watched Take Me Out - we were both pretty tired and still full from all the food we'd eaten all day!

On the way home there were bits of snow falling but it wasn't much. However when I went out to Tesco to get some soup, for Jessica, I came back covered in snow and by the time it came to going to Taco Bell, there was enough to have a surprise snowball fight. Clearly, not any type of weather would stop us from getting the food we want!

Afternoon Tea @ The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop

Bronze afternoon for two - 2 scones, 2 Bakewell puddings, clotted cream, strawberry jam and a pot of tea - £14.95

You can't go to Bakewell and not get a Bakewell pudding! Yes, pudding, we found out that Bakewell tart is different and sold anywhere, but pudding is the real deal and the original product.

We haven't had afternoon tea for a while, so when we came about this place where we could combine afternoon tea and Bakewell puddings, we were in!

The food was great, but we felt it lacked its own character in being the original shop. It perhaps was missing a wow factor on a personal level. We were both stuffed afterwards! Maybe our eyes are bigger than our bellys!

Lunch @ Proctors Fish Bar, Bakewell

Haddock, chips and mushy peas - £8.90

Our drive led us here - to Bakewell in the Peak District. To have been living in Sheffield for a year and a half and not taken the trip out here is just not right! So today is the day! We contemplated the further trips to Leeds or York, but time was cracking on, so we'll do those another weekend.

The drive was beautiful and it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. There was snow on some of the mountains and there were hot air balloon rides going on in the distance. We got out for a bit of a photo shoot haha.

When we got here we walked along the river with the swans, ducks and birds - which Jessica was hilariously scared by! When we saw a crowd of birds gathering by a man with fish and chips, we went after our own and found a fish bar not far from where we were.

We walked a little more to find the Original Bakewell Pudding Shop... queue next post!

Brunch @ Steam Yard - Division Street, Sheffield

White chocolate filled doughnut - £2.50 Mocha - £2.70 - Jessica
The Steve McQueen (Coffee and ring doughnut) - £3 - James

Why haven't we been here before? I really don't know, I've known about it for a while after seeing it all the time on Instagram. Jessica also came across it recently so it reminded me to go!

The Cuban Grilled Sandwich - gammon, Swiss gherkin and mustard - £4.20 - Jessica

Having the car in Sheffield now we were able to drive here and it's only 5 minutes away. We're planning to go on an adventure after this! Not sure where, but we'll be taking a drive!

The Flatbread - mozzarella, pesto and tomato - £4.20 - James

This is one of Sheffield's independent coffee shops, and it's easy to see why this place has become quite famous. It's really cute and pretty, and the food was delicious and beautifully presented.

They have different types of doughnuts which we will definitely be coming back for! They have a variety of filled ones, smore doughnuts and fro-nuts (they have ice cream in them).

London ➡️ Sheffield

For all the train journeys that we've both made for each other, this is only our second together!
As we originally planned for Jessica to come to Sheffield this weekend, and then  we added the previous day's because of my interview... so 5 days together woooo!!

We left the house an hour and a half before our train as we wanted to visit Platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross Station. We planned this a few days ago, and then after Alan Rickman's passing it was turned into a memorial for him. So all the more reason to go!

However, Jessica forgot her railcard so had to go back for it, and there were delays on the tube sooooo that was our plan scuppered! It was just a good job we did leave early otherwise it was a potential disaster!

We got M&S sandwiches from St Pancras station and chocolate to eat on the train.

Jessica slept for most of the journey so had far too much energy for when bed time came! I shouldn't have let her be so cute and sleep for all that time!

Salmon pasta with red onion and mushroom - made by James

Jessica is at work again today and I don't  really know what to do. This morning I cleaned the kitchen, hoovered the bedroom and went out to Tesco to buy the ingredients for Jessica's surprise lunch! (I say surprise, but I only knew last minute as well haha).

After last nights pizza and nachos I decided to get something healthy(ish), and I do loveee some salmon! The salmon idea came from an Instagram post I saw this morning, and then I thought it's been a while since I've had it with pasta. Sorted!

A quick Google search led me to the BBC Good Food site where I got the simple recipe from and I went from there!

After Jessica's comment about me "used to" making her fancy meals on Instagram the other day haha, I decided that Chef Baker would be making a return today! I always used to do the cooking and I miss it! So it wasn't that fancy today to be honest - I'm just warming up for this weekend! *feeling the pressure now I've said that* hahaha!

Dinner @ London

Dominos pizza, wedges, and chicken wings

The reason I came to London for these few days is because today was the day for my first interview/assessment centre for my placement next year!

So if you're wondering why there's no breakfast or lunch posts from today, that's why! We haven't been together all day, which is so strange when I'm in London! Jessica has been at work today, ahh us working people we are haha (Sort of!)

It felt so weird mixing in with all the business people on the tube this morning! And for the place to be in the middle of Westminster, it was just a cool experience! Hopefully the first of many!

Nachos with beef mince, cheese, tomato salsa, sour cream, guacamole and jalapeño peppers

On the way back I bought the ingredients for our favourite... nachos!! And then there was a nice surprise of there being Dominos and Ben and Jerrys for us when we got home!

So I bought the ingredients but Jessica put it all together! I was so tired and had a bit of a headache. So Jessica made them and brought them to me in bed! Life! Thank you my love!

Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter, Caramel Chew Chew, and Cookie Dough Ice Cream

Tonight we are continuing our Harry Potter marathon with The Order of the Phoenix and maybe the Order of the Prince. Is it weird to say I forgot how good these movies are?

Finally, Rest In Peace to Alan Rickman, the actor who played Severus Snape in all the Harry Potter films, who died today at the age of 69.

Today I arrived at the earlier than usual time of 6.30, just in time to join Jessica's Grandma's birthday celebrations!

Of course there was plenty of Filipino food there, cooked by Jessica's dad, I've had pancit quite a few times now!

After dinner we all sang happy birthday and ate this lovely cake!

Dinner @ Subway, Shepherds Bush

6 foot big beef melt with lettuce, tomato, jalepenos and hot chilli sauce and a drink - £5

Daddy's Home was a really good movie, hilarious actually - I would recommend it.

After the film, James and I went to Westfield, not for anything in particular, just to walked around and hope to feel hungry haha

Raspberry cheesecake, white chip macadamia nut and double chocolate chip - 3 for £0.99

As most times, James has never had a subway before and I remember when we first started going out and we had discussion about it, it's not that k think greatly of subway not do I think there is anything wrong with it, but you know, I just thought everyone would have at least had one subway and I always think eating something once is an experience.

Today is finally the day and he got a bit brave with that chilli sauce, but he did enjoy it, he thought it was better than expected and better than the picture. So overall, positive feedback.
