Dinner @ Sheffield

This was one of the first meals that Jessica ever cooked for me when we had our week and a half together in April - and it was so good! It was a Chicken and Mushroom pie made in the slow cooker. In the week, Jessica made sweet potato fries at home, and I became very jealous! I only allowed her to do such a thing if she were to make them for me at the weekend - we had a deal!

As I said, we were supposed to have this yesterday. We were going to prepare in the morning and put in the slow cooker so it would be ready for the evening. It takes 7-8 hours! But we ran out of time on Saturday morning so we had to change plans and swap the two evening meals.

As we had already made this, and not knowing how much we would eat for lunch, we had to at least attempt this - even know we were not hungry at all! I didn't expect to finish it, but I was disappointed in myself in only managing about half. But on the good side, I do have some left over pie to eat during the week!

It's been a lovely and delicious weekend, but we now go back to our two week gap as I am working all next weekend and it is Khyla's birthday - Jessica's sister, so she has to be in London. We are already looking forward to Jessica's next visit to Sheffield in two weeks time. I'm sure the food planning will begin soon!

The moment we had been waiting for - FREE DESSERT!! As you can imagine, we were both already so full, but this is reason we came, so we couldn't declare yet! The waiting staff already knew we had won dessert, we didn't need to say a thing which was great!

To work off (some of) the calories we had just consumed, we braved the extremely cold and a bit wet weather to walk home. We had to take a different route home as unfortunately the Botanical Gardens close at 4pm.

We took the scenic walk through the Botanical Gardens to get here, and when we did we had already built up a small appetite. We could tell from the restaurant itself and the food that was passing us, that the food would be really nice here. There is a set menu where you can have 2 courses for £10.95, or 3 for £12.95. Obviously we didn't need the 3 course option as our dessert was coming free, but we couldn't resist a starter and main course.

Not only did you get the two courses, but also a complimentary side dish. After being told the chips were twice cooked - meaning they were baked, then covered with flour and then fried, we both chose to have them. They were as promised - crispy on the outside, fluffy and soft on the inside and super delicious!

We effectively had a three course meal for £21.90, so we really cannot complain! Everything was delicious and we would definitely recommend here. I'm sure we will be coming back!

Lunch @ Sheffield

After breakfast, we prepared our slow cooker dinner for tonight, and then turned our attentions to lunch. We faced a great dilemma! Earlier in the week we won 2 free desserts at Loch Fyne Seafood and Grill restaurant which is a 20 minute walk from my house. We didn't know whether to eat our main course at the restaurant or to eat at home instead. For money reasons (we spent all our money on food), we resisted and ate at home.

We had left over spaghetti, chicken, mushroom and spinach, and I also had another tin of tomatoes in the cupboard - sorted! That is what we were having. This was all made by Jessica.

However, never underestimate us when it comes to food - see our next post!

Breakfast @ Sheffield

When I was went home for my parents' birthdays last weekend, Mum & I went to Liverpool to do Christmas shopping. However the buy of the day were these pancakes haha! From the reduced section in M&S. Jessica and I have only had pancakes once before on Valentine's Day, and I thought it would be really nice to do it again. So i bought them and put them in the freezer to keep for today.

We agreed we would keep things simple by having strawberries, bananas and whipped cream on them. I started off by trying to write JBSquared with the whipped cream - but it was much harder than  i thought and it looked a complete mess, so I gave up haha!

To go along with the pancakes, we had some filter coffee which was very kindly bought for us a while ago by our friends Rochelle and Joseph when they went on holiday. We bought a coffee filter and everything, but keep forgetting to use it. But today was the day! And it was so good!

"One day you'll wake up at 11.30am on a Sunday with the love of your life and you'll make some coffee and pancakes and it'll all be alright"

Dinner @ Sheffield

Once I had returned from work and we had gained access to my room again haha, there was no time for rest as we had to go out to do the food shopping for dinner and also the next day. Originally we had planned to make what is tomorrows dinner today, but we ran out of time to prepare it in the morning, so we decided to do this which would be much quicker to make! (See tomorrows' post to see why).

Back in the days when I did all the cooking, I had made this for Jessica and I but in all honesty and for reasons I couldn't understand - it wasn't brilliant. So I wanted to try again, and with Jessica's help, it was much better this time. We also decided to buy the Pizza Express dough balls from Tesco to go along with it.

Ingredients: spaghetti, bacon, chorizo sausage, red pepper, onion, spinach, tinned tomatos.

For dessert, we bought our favourite doughnuts! We hadn't had the one on the left before - it was Salted Caramel Biscoff.

Lunch @ Pizza Express - Meadowhall, Sheffield

So we left for me to go to work at 11am, and I started at 12. We got there 20 minutes or so early so we wandered around for a bit, and had a look at the ice-skating rink they have there over the Christmas period - we might do it next time!

Again, Jessica was unsure of whether to stay around for a bit and eat at Pizza Express - but at around 2, I had the delightful news delivered by one of my colleagues that Jessica was in the building! It turns out that she had done some shopping for a couple of hours and chilled at Starbucks.

I was pretty busy at the time so I didn't have as many chances to go over and serve her as I would've liked. However, Jessica told me afterwards that despite sitting behind a wall so I couldn't see her, she had been spying on me the whole time through a mirror on the wall! So when I couldn't figure out how to turn the coffee machine off, she was having a right laugh at me without me even knowing! Disgusting haha!

The restaurant had started to quieten down after a while, so by the time Jessica had finished her main course, I was able to take her dessert order and even make it for her! Yes, I made it okay haha! I have been wanting to try these profiteroles ever since I started working here, so I was a bit jealous!

Around an hour after Jessica had left to go home, I had the realisation that I had the house key in my coat pocket and there was nothing I could do about it! I was hoping that someone would be in the house to let her in and luckily there was! But I always lock my room door as well, so she could only go into the lounge and kitchen. This was absolutely devastating - she had no access to the Walkers Crisps, or my laundry that needed ironing! Sad times! But she did hoover the lounge and do our dishes from earlier. Thank you for doing that baby!

Breakfast @ Sheffield

Here we are... our 6th weekend together in a row! It's been amazing to spend to much time together! However, after this we are back to our normal two week gap so we had to make the most of this weekend! (and by that, I mean eat as much as possible!)

I picked Jessica up from the station after coming straight from work on Friday night - I was so tired! And I had to be in work for 12pm the next day too. So we made the effort to get up early and make a proper breakfast as I wouldn't be eating for a good while after this.

We made something very similar to this a couple of weeks back after being inspired by @symmetrybreakfast, but then we realised that also not so long ago we had almost the same thing but presented in a different way, at The Breakfast Club in London. So that's how we did it this time.
I had done the shopping for the ingredients on Friday afternoon, as we wouldn't have time to do it once Jessica had arrived.

There was toast with guacamole, bacon and poached egg.

Dessert @ The Botanist, Chester

Once everyone left, we went to go have dessert before I had to catch the train back to London :(

We did choose to share one, as we both went super hungry but it was a awaited dessert, as we wanted to get it yesterday, after Hanky Panky, but we got convinced not to by Helena haha (didn't want to risk us spoiling our dinner)

It was actually pretty cool, as simple as it sounds, strawberries and marshmallow combination, but the way it was presented on a kebab stick was cool and on top of that, the chocolate sauce was placed on top of it, which you pour into and it drizzles down as you eat it. Cool right?

Although I had to leave, it was a good way to spend our last hour together, doing what we do best.. Eat;)

Another home cooked meal by James' mum - I do love the fact that they all have their meals at home at the table together, and today we had another special gusset at the table, James' Nan.

Since its James' dad's birthday tomorrow, some of the family were coming over tonight, so were having a combined late lunch and early dinner.

Side note: either James and his family eat very fast or I eat super slow, but I'm always the last one to finish! (I think they eat super fast haha)

Lamb with roast potatoes, cabbage, broccoli, carrots and gravy.

Once everyone arrived, including the love of my life, Harry (okay he hated me today but it's whatever)

We all had a nice chat, catch up, they all synchronised their social calendar, gave James' dad, Steve, his birthday cards, presents and we all sang him happy birthday!

I was happy to have shared these kind of moments with James and his family - I am very blessed to be somewhat a part of them.

Drinks @ The Architect, Chester

After dinner, we had to drop Olivia off to a friends birthday dinner, so we decided it would be a good opportunity to get a drink while we're out.

For me this was such a lovely moment, because we don't usually get to do things like this - it felt more personal, to share this moment and to get to know each other a little bit more in a less formal fashion.

We needed up staying long enough to then pick Olivia back up as soon as she was done.

The toilets here are amazing btw 😁

As the fatties we are, of course we had to have dessert when we got back home (this would of had its own post but let's be real - it's not exactly the best or exciting picture)

While we did food shopping earlier, we spotted this trifle for four - but of course only two of us ate it and demolished it, while catching up with X factor.

After lunch, we went around the shops, did some searching for James' Christmas presents and I bought myself a pair of trainers, as the ones I was wearing were worn off.

We didn't realise the time, it was basically nearly time for dinner. Helena needed to get a few more ingredients for tonight, so we did that and headed back home.

This lovely meal was prepared and made by James' mum - it's always nice having a meal with everyone at the dinner table.

Lunch @ Hanky Panky, Chester

Today we have a special guest with us, James' mum, Helena. James and had discussed briefly about where we would eat and we thought we would take a trip back here. No better way to start your day with some Hanky Panky pancakes!

Since we had a light breakfast and that each time we've been here, we've always had the big three stack sweet pancakes (which I never end up finishing anyway) we decided to go for a savoury one.

While waiting for a table, watching others get their food, we saw one with bacon, scrambled egg and mushrooms - that was the moment we knew - it was confirmed - that is what we were having!

James' mum isn't a big fan of savoury pancakes and had her mind set on a sweet one.

We waited a bit, as we wanted to start all together and plus - we all know my rule, I have to take a picture before we eat haha

Helena's sweet pancake came after, but James was too hungry and worried his food was getting cold to wait, so we started without her, as we was told to.

James and his mum are both very fast eaters anyway, and I not so much but it worked out even in the end - once again couldn't eat all of my food, so James was there to make sure it was gone.

It was a lovely meal and a great catch up to have together - I look forward to having more meals like this in the future.

Cocktails @ The Church, Chester

Woo guys! I AM BACK! I've missed you dearly.

My train arrived in Chester at 8.47pm, the earliest I've ever got here, I believe. Due to that, James suggested that we get a drink before heading home.

You know, not everyday be boring, sometimes go out and have a drink on a Friday night haha

James thought of a place, it was called 'The Church' - odd name for a bar & restaurant but it makes sense, since it actually used to be a church - smart right?

Well, it was really nice - you can tell in the window detail and the massive (what's it's called, where the sound comes out from the piano) well, that - it was really fascinating!

The bartenders are very talented and professional - throwing the bottles and all sorts around - very entertaining! I was very impressed.

For a Friday night, it wasn't as jammed as I thought it would be, so we did manage to find a table outside (it was very cold, I assume that's why)

We only had one drink, as James was driving and let me honest, I only need one to keep me going haha

We ended up taking a drive - not too far from where he lives and just looked at the stars - romantic? I suppose but it's so amazing to me because in London, due to the many lights, it hard to see the many stars, but in Chester, you can see them all - a picture could not justify it, so you'll just have to go have a look for yourself - you will not be disappointed!

Dessert @ Häagen-Dazs, Leicester Square

Jessica and I have fond memories of this place! We came here on just my second trip to London over a year ago now, and i remember it was sooooo good! We have done so much (and eaten so much haha) since then, but this one still stood out for me.
During the week, Jessica broke my heart by telling me she was going to come here with her cousin, so we had to come to make up for that! I know we said this last time, so i won't rule anything out, but this could be my last time in London for a good while, so what a way to spend my last night here before heading back to Sheffield in the morning!

We obviously got the one for two people, but there was a four person option, which to be honest, we probably could've managed haha - it definitely lived up to expectations!

Today Jessica had to go to work again, so i stayed at home to do university work. We agreed that if there was no cooked food at home, that we would order in, probably through Just-Eat. So i started looking at possibilities, but Jessica had remembered this place that we saw from when we ate at Jack's Cafe. It's about a 5 minute walk from her work so it is very convenient!
Jessica also knew about the lunch time offer they have on - £7.95 for cod, chips, mushy peas and a drink (or £5.50 to takeaway). So this is what we did.
For that price, we expected something quite small, but as you can see, it definitely was not!

Just as I thought I wouldn't be back in London for a while due to work, here I am! Despite being together for the previous two weekends and the two after this one, we just can't stay away from each other. After Jessica joked about that I should come to London because I don't have work on the Sunday and don't need to be back at university until Tuesday, I ended up looking at train tickets - just out of curiosity. But surprisingly the prices weren't too bad (albeit a bit more than we'd normally pay), so I booked them! I came on Saturday night straight after work, and got into London at 8.30pm.
This weekend we had the pleasure of babysitting (they are definitely not babies haha) Jessica's sister, Khyla, and her God-daughter Nevaeh.

On Sunday morning we went to the Kids AM showing of 'Inside Out' at 10am, at the Vue Cinema at Westfield. Afterwards at about 12pm we then came here, to Pizza Hut. It was all a lot of fun but quite tiring! Jessica and I got this pizza to share, but we couldn't finish it. So we took it away with us and gave it to people at home.
I was quite the irresponsible babysitter by playing footsies under the table and throwing chips and pizza toppings at Khyla and Nevaeh! They took it a bit seriously though so I had to prevent a mass food fight breaking out! Oops!

I don't know how i haven't been here before - it's beautiful! It is amazing how somewhere where like this can be right next to such a busy city. Not many places are like this and I am very lucky to live literally a two minute walk away from the gardens.

There is also an indoor area with plants from around the world including Australia and New Zealand, but for me the best bit is being outdoors and seeing the endless amounts of squirrels climb the trees and being able to take in the fresh air. There's something very relaxing about this place and the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon like we did.

We'll definitely be coming back!

We all had a lie in after quite a tiring day yesterday. By the time we had woken up, Olivia's friends were ready to go home. But food comes first, and we hadn't had lunch yet! So we got up and quickly went out.We agreed in the end to meet her friends at 2pm.
Last year there was an independent pizza restaurant near my accommodation. We visited a couple of times and very much liked it, and luckily, there is one just a few minutes walk from my house this year too. So we decided this is where we would go.

The food was lovely, but lacked in atmosphere which the other one had, but maybe this was down to that we went on a quiet Sunday afternoon, rather than a busy Saturday night.

We knew from last year that they were big on cocktails here, so Jessica and I couldn't resist getting one again. Olivia of course opted for the non-alcoholic smoothie.
